It was an otherwise quiet, somewhat dreary day, the first day of fall cool enough to justify starting a fire in the fireplace.  I was doing homework when my mother slammed open my bedroom door. “Well what do you have to say for yourself this time young lady?” she asked as she barged into my room.

Now, Momma did this from time to time, interrupt suddenly with no context as to what she was talking about, so while this wasn’t as startling as it could have been, I still had no clue what she meant.  “What are you talking about, Momma?”

“I found this in your backpack!” she exclaimed, brandishing a paperback book.  “Is this the sort of filth young people are reading these days?  This smut, this rubbish?  Well I certainly won’t have it under my roof!”

“What? Momma, that’s for school!”

“Well I hardly believe that!” she declared as she started striding back towards the living room, waving her trophy around wildly, me following frantically behind, trailing across the house.  “But I’ll certainly be having a word with your teacher nevertheless.  Children your age shouldn’t even have access to such garbage.  Obviously she isn’t assigning you enough work if you have time to waste filling your head with dreck.”

“Momma, no!” I cried futilely, as she threw the book into the already crackling fireplace.

“And let that be a lesson to you!  I won’t tolerate you reading such smut in my house!”  I barely heard her rants as she stormed off, as I stared sadly at my copy of A Good Man is Hard to Find now smoldering contentedly behind the grate.  How was I going to explain this one to my teacher?

Author’s note: uhh, for anyone still confused, obviously the mom confused the book with its sequel, A Hard Man is Good to Find. ;)

So I'm in Chicago now! It's pretty nice but I hate the traffic. I don't handle people honking at me well. I love and hate my internship at the same time. My roommates are both pretty chill so far. Need to find a paying job though. Need to go to bed now. 4-day weekend!

Slightly disjointed update on my life because I'm too tired to be jointed.

Mono not as bad as I expected it to be. Take a bunch of naps and I'm fine. Should try getting sleep schedule back to normal.

Matt told Jeff that we're together now. He's sad but still hanging around. He'll be at pool on Monday nights now, which kind of makes me sad because I liked watching Matt shoot. Maybe I can still go other days. Matt came over after pool tonight and we were silly until I laughed so hard I was worried I'd burst my spleen. He's so nice. Being with him is nice. I walk around smiling stupidly all day I'm so happy. Tape dispensers make me smile now, is how silly wonderful it is. He took me to get my eyebrows waxed this weekend and I really like them now. No one has said anything about them yet though. You should totally compliment them next time you see me.

I finally got my license but Mom still won't let me drive the car that's supposedly for Max and me to share. Also, I had lunch with her and she did not compliment my eyebrows. :(

I got an iPod for Christmas. It's super cute.

Another meme!

The Five Questions Meme
1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me.”
2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions of a personal nature.
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed you will ask them 5 questions.

I may have done this one already!

Here are my answers!Collapse )

Meme #2!

Leave your name in my blog comments.
Once you do that, this is what I'll do ...

1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you which song or movie you remind me of.
3. I'll pick a kind of drink to share with you.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
(If possible. If not, I'll say something that only makes sense to me.)
5. I'll tell you my favorite memory I have of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something I've always wondered about you.
8. If you play, you MUST post this on your blog

So yeah, I'm in a good mood. ^.^

Okay, I've got about three memes I'm supposed to do, so while I dig up the other two, here's the first one:

What has surprised you the most about me (if anything) since joining my flist? Was anything completely unexpected or have I always fit the picture of me you have in your head? Post this in your own journal and see how you have surprised people!

Though most of you I've known for so long anyway....

So, sometimes I wish I had more friends. I only have a handful of people I really consider friends and will go out of my way to see. Which makes me feel weird sometimes, looking at my brother and all his friends, and how so many people know so many other people, and I just don't network that way. I often find myself wishing I could make friends as easily as others seem to. Then I realize how incredibly lucky I am that the friends I do have are so great, and have stuck with me so long. We've all changed over the years, and yet managed to stick together. I've got pictures of Katherine at my 10th or 11th birthday party. I remember when Jen was outgoing and hyper all the time. Max and I stopped fighting in middle school. I'm incredibly lucky to still have Jacob as a friend, as that breakup could have gone so badly and I would have been so much worse off without his support. And I'd much rather have a few great friends that last ages than a load of "friends" that I have to facebook to remember their names. Y'all are great.

I promise this isn't drunk LJing. Y'all are even awesome when I'm sober.

I dunno if anyone's still reading this, but...

So today I realized that it's been about a year since... well, last year. (Duh, right?) Not a year since last year's mess ended but a year since the worst part happened. I'm very happy to be healthy again. Not sure if I'll ever be quite the same as before, but I'm not sure if I'd want to be. So I'd like to give a big thank you to Jacob for being an awesome friend even when I was being a stupid bitch.

Okay, since photigrapes did one, I'll also do a list of books I've read recently. Mine isn't as long though, and possibly incomplete because I have a mind like a sieve.

Read more...Collapse )
So... I think that's it. I feel like there was another one around the time I was reading House of Leaves but I don't really remember. Maybe it was a non-fiction book I was carrying around. Anyway, this summer I intend to catch up on some reading. Any suggestions?
